This is a colloquial term for a subgenre of the horror/thriller movie that features a formerly glamorous older woman who has become mentally unbalanced and terrorizes those around her.
The genre officially began with the film "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" (although some previously released movies like Sunset Boulevard share the similarity with this subgenre).
Some of the other prominent examples of this subgenre are "Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte", "What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice?" and "Whoever Slew Auntie Roo?"
Films like "Mommie Dearest" and "Requiem for a Dream" contain some elements of this subgenre.
This subgenre came back into spotlight due to TV series "Feud".
