The X - Y Teammate of the Year Award is an annual NBA award that recognizes the league's "ideal teammate" who exemplifies "selfless play and commitment and dedication to his team."
The award is named after Jack X and Maurice Y.
They played together on the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals (now known as Sacremento Kings) from 1955 to 1958 until Y's career was cut short after he suffered a head injury from a fall.
Y would later become paralyzed due to post-traumatic encephalopathy and X then became Y's legal guardian and advocate till Y's death.
